How to use the cash calculator
Work through the till, cash box or wallet you're counting one denomination at a time, and type the count into the matching row; there's no need to fill in every field, empty rows are simply treated as zero. As soon as you type a number, the subtotal for that row updates immediately (count multiplied by the note or coin's face value), and the grand total at the bottom updates alongside it, so you can see your running total build up as you go rather than waiting until the very end to find out if something looks off.
Once you've entered every denomination, the total shown is the exact sum of everything you counted, along with a breakdown of how many notes and how many coins that total came from. Why count by denomination instead of just adding up cash by eye
Estimating a stack of mixed notes by eye, or adding running totals in your head as you go, is exactly where small counting errors creep in, a ₹500 note miscounted as a ₹100 note is a ₹400 error that's easy to make and easy to miss until the total doesn't match. Splitting the count by denomination and letting the calculator do the multiplication removes that whole category of arithmetic mistake: you only have to count how many of each note or coin you're holding, which is a much easier task than multiplying and adding in your head under time pressure.
This is also simply how cash is actually counted in most real settings. Indian currency denominations this calculator covers
The calculator includes every denomination currently issued and in general circulation by the Reserve Bank of India: banknotes in ₹500, ₹200, ₹100, ₹50, ₹20 and ₹10, and coins in ₹20, ₹10, ₹5, ₹2 and ₹1. It deliberately leaves out denominations that are no longer legal tender or have been withdrawn from circulation, most notably the ₹2000 note (phased out by the RBI) and the old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes demonetised in 2016, so every row on this page reflects money you can actually still spend, not currency history. - A small shop's evening till count: 3 × ₹500 notes, 8 × ₹100 notes, 12 × ₹50 notes, 6 × ₹20 notes, and loose change of 15 × ₹10 coins, 20 × ₹5 coins. Entering these gives subtotals of ₹1,500, ₹800, ₹600, ₹120, ₹150 and ₹100, a grand total of ₹3,270 from 44 pieces (29 notes, 15 coins).
- Checking a cash withdrawal handed over in mixed notes: 2 × ₹500 and 5 × ₹200 notes. The calculator shows ₹1,000 + ₹1,000 = ₹2,000 from 7 notes, letting you confirm the amount matches what you expected before you put it away.
- Counting a coin jar with only small change: 40 × ₹5 coins, 60 × ₹2 coins and 25 × ₹1 coins gives ₹200 + ₹120 + ₹25 = ₹345 from 125 coins, a count that's genuinely tedious to do by hand but instant here.

Who actually needs a denomination-based cash calculator
Small shopkeepers and kirana store owners doing an opening or closing till count are probably the most common use, since a business handling cash sales all day needs a fast, reliable way to confirm the drawer matches expected sales without pulling out a physical adding machine. Cashiers and bank tellers handling cash deposits or withdrawals use the same denomination-first counting method by hand already; this tool just does the arithmetic part of a process they already know.
Outside retail and banking, the same tool is useful anywhere cash changes hands in bulk: event organisers counting ticket-sale cash at the end of a show, a housing society or resident welfare association treasurer counting collected maintenance dues paid in cash, a temple, gurudwara or other religious institution counting a donation box, a wedding or festival cash-gift count, or a household simply totalling savings kept at home instead of in a bank account. A till reconciliation often needs to confirm not just the total value but that the physical count of notes matches what was expected (missing notes and a shortfall in coins usually point to different causes), and anyone who needs to physically bundle or bag the cash afterward needs to know how many individual pieces they're dealing with, not just the rupee value. Double-checking your total
Because every subtotal is shown next to the row it belongs to, you can spot-check any single denomination's arithmetic at a glance rather than only trusting the final number, useful if a total looks off and you want to find which row is responsible before recounting everything. A simple way to double-check a large count: count the pile once, write down or screenshot the total, then recount and re-enter the same denominations in a different order (say, coins first instead of notes first); if both passes give the same grand total, you can be confident the count is accurate, and if they don't match, the denomination that differs between the two passes is where the miscount happened.
